ARTISTS STATEMENT Through the use of mixed media, my work stands as a visual history of the travel from childhood towards adulthood. The scars, joys and struggles of growing up in the 50’s with a certain set of rules, and coming into adulthood in the 80’s when the rules changed and life became very different from the world that I was raised in. The textures, cavities, color against color, scratches and words suggest that struggle. As I age, my figures seem to disappear as I am reminded that I too am becoming invisible. My work suggests the vulnerability of being shaped by the collective consciousness surrounding us.
I have an MFA from Goddard College, and am represented by galleries in Iowa, Maine, New Hampshire and Nebraska, among others. I have recently shown in the BOCA museum 62th annual competition, the Cornell Museum of Art juried show, the Studio 18 invitational, the Truro Center for the Arts in Truro, MA, and the National Art Encounter Competition in Naples, FL.
I've been teaching at the Truro Center, and the Fat Village Art and Cultural Center, in Fort Lauderdale, FL. I have been a painter for over 50 years with a new interest in large size sculpture. |
