ARTISTS STATEMENT
Most of my abstract paintings of the last two decades are inspired by the constantly changing residue of paint spills, splatters, drips, and over-sprays that have accumulated on my studio floor and walls. Each new painting in this series has its own life, not necessarily dependent on the last work created. Each piece has its own voice which in turn speaks to the individual viewer to whom it reaches. Each work is its own event. With these paintings there is no particular narrative or story to interpret leaving the viewer to make his or her own associations.
My mixed- media painting process utilizes a variety of materials and paint mediums to choose from including but not limited to acrylics, inks, gels, markers, collage papers, transfers, spray paint, skins, and resin in various combinations. Working in multiple layers, I rely on experience, spontaneity, and chance to reveal the alchemical transformative qualities of the mixed mediums I employ.
