ARTISTS STATEMENT I am fascinated with the human form – how it moves, the shape it creates at rest, the forms that occur when washed with light and shadow, the space around it, a gaze at or away, how it can advance or recede into the background or a previous movement, how the edges are specific or fleeting, how different and fascinating and familiar it is.
I recognize the significant humanness of it all and our desire to compare, evaluate and observe each other as well as the emotional effect between the model as more than an object and the artist as an observer. Similar to an upset child, silenced by the view of another child passing by, the nearness of someone who is of the same species and characteristics has a calming reassurance only surpassed by the excitement of using their presence to transcribe a graphic description of this shared moment in time.
