ARTISTS STATEMENT
"My work is informed by my life surroundings, observing nature and the natural interactions between animals and man. Working with clay allows me to create various creatures, such as vultures and hares, which may seem life like with a twist.
Black Vultures are highly social birds with fierce family loyalty. Black Vultures share food with relatives, feeding young for months after they’ve fledged. They are both intelligent and social.
Hares are often used as a symbol of fertility or rebirth. Their role as a prey animal also communicates itself as a symbol of innocence. The hare frequently appears in folklore as the trickster archetype, as he uses his cunning to outwit his enemies."
Karla pursued her college career at the age of forty-six. She attended Florida Atlantic University and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2006, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Ceramics. Karla is currently a working artist and also serves as the Art Gallery Specialist for Palm Beach State College in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, where she coordinates and curates exhibitions.
Karla has shown her work in numerous exhibitions, received awards, and has her artwork included in private collections, including the Mordes, Whitespace Collection, Joan Lazarus, Buzzy August and Bryan D. Walsh. She has exhibited at Art Palm Beach and the Antique Fine Art Exhibition. She is currently exhibiting at the Whitespace Collection, Paul Fisher Gallery, JF Gallery and DRT Modern Gallery. |
