ARTISTS STATEMENT Giannina Coppiano Dwin works on installations, sculpture, ceramics, photography, and drawing. Through her work she considers ideas of identity, genetics, gender, nourishment, fragility and impermanence. She hopes to elicit analysis of the transient nature of the human condition and the fragility of life in general. It is a sort of contemporary Vanitas.
Giannina earned her MFA at FAU. She has been the recipient of grants and awards such as the 2006 South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship, and sponsorships and grants including research in Spain and Brazil. Her work has been in national and international exhibitions. Solo installations include those at the Project Space in The Art and Culture Center in Hollywood, the contemporary wing of the Museo Municipal de Guayaquil, Ecuador; Ornare, Miami, during Art Basel; Illegal Gallery, Florence, Italy. Selected group shows include the University Galleries at FAU, Boca Raton; Whitespace at the Mordes Collection, Duncan Gallery, St. Petersburg; Armory Art Center, West Palm Beach; Cornell Museum, Delray Beach; Casa De Espanha, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
