ARTISTS STATEMENT I strongly believe in the oneness of humanity and seek to emphasize how we are alike no matter how different we seem. Only in finding a thread of connection can we realize this truth. The multi-layered and organic nature of my work reflects the perfect imperfection of the human soul. Repeated elements of my visual vocabulary lend a narrative quality.
My inspiration comes from a life of reading, travel, the study of art, world cultures, architecture and the lovely environment of my native South Florida. I utilize mixed media and various techniques in my art including collage, acrylics, oil paint, and bees wax.
This painting is an examination of the redundancy of daily routine. It seems that our lives are so repetitive yet at the same time each day is absolutely unique. The work consists of twelve 12"X12" canvases created over a 12 month period in 2013 and completed on December 31, 2013. The background was created as one whole, each square related to the next but resulting in the first and last canvases being totally different. The smaller squares within the canvases are a documentation of my days, thoughts and feelings at that time. It was important to me to keep the technique very simple and minimal to emphasize the conceptual aspect of the work. |
